Netherlands to Provide $3.5 Billion Annually in Military and Financial Aid to Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that the Netherlands will provide approximately $3.5 billion in financial and military assistance to Ukraine on an annual basis.
This commitment was solidified following a high-level meeting in Kyiv with the newly appointed Dutch Prime Minister, Rob Jetten, according to Zelenskyy’s Telegram channel on March 8.

President Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude for the swift engagement and the consistency of the partnership, noting that the Dutch assistance is now structured on a predictable, long-term basis.
“We need stable, sustained support every day while the war continues. The Netherlands demonstrates exactly the kind of support that works most effectively. This is a predictable annual amount—€3 billion (around $3.5 billion) every year,” Zelenskyy stated.
A central focus of the discussions was the reinforcement of Ukraine’s skies. Zelenskyy specifically highlighted the Netherlands’ active participation in the PURL (Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List) program.

Beyond direct aid, the two leaders discussed deep cooperation in the defense industry, focusing on investments, licensing, and increasing production volumes.
“It is important that together with the Netherlands we are producing weapons, and we will certainly continue and increase this joint work. Specifically, this is also outlined in the joint statement we adopted today,” the President noted.
President Zelenskyy emphasized that the Netherlands has supported Ukraine since the first days of the full-scale war, providing extensive military, energy, political, and sanctions-related assistance. This annual funding commitment ensures that Ukraine can continue its defense and recovery efforts with a guaranteed budget.
In a parallel effort to bolster national resilience, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal met with Sjoerd Sjoerdsma, the Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, on March 3.

The discussions focused on vital strategies for the Ukrainian power grid, including the delivery of transformers, generators, and decommissioned gas equipment already underway.
“I am grateful to the Netherlands for its constant support of Ukraine. The Netherlands has already provided us with energy equipment worth $30.5 million. Furthermore, they announced an additional contribution to the Energy Support Fund in the amount of €35 million ($41 million),” Denysh Shmyhal said.
Earlier, the Dutch Defense Ministry confirmed that the Netherlands, alongside the UK, Norway, and Sweden, would co-finance a $500 million package of US-sourced weaponry and ammunition under the PURL framework. This specialized aid includes Patriot interceptors and artillery shells.
