Ukraine’s First Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Denys Shmyhal, recently engaged in a high-level discussion with Sjoerd Sjoerdsma, the Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation.

According to the Ministry of Energy on March 3, the meeting focused on vital strategies for bolstering the resilience of the Ukrainian power grid.

“The heads of the ministries of Ukraine and the Netherlands discussed Ukraine's priorities in strengthening the energy sector. Denys Shmyhal expressed gratitude for the delivery of transformers and generators to Ukraine, as well as decommissioned gas equipment. The interlocutors coordinated further steps,” the statement read.

A collaborative effort is currently underway in the Netherlands, where Ukrainian technicians and their Dutch counterparts are dismantling energy infrastructure. This equipment is slated for shipment to Ukraine following the expected completion of work by mid-March.

“I am grateful to the Netherlands for its constant support of Ukraine. The Netherlands has already provided us with energy equipment worth $30.5 million. Furthermore, they announced an additional contribution to the Energy Support Fund in the amount of €35 million ($41 million),” Denysh Shmyhal added.

In addition to infrastructure support, Ukraine is significantly scaling up its “Drone Line” initiative through a strategic partnership with the Netherlands. This program aims to standardize drone regiments across every military corps, ensuring high attrition rates against enemy forces on the front lines.

Following a high-level meeting on February 28, 2026, Ukrainian Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov and the Dutch Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius, reached an agreement to channel further resources into the project.

This initiative has already become a pillar of Ukraine’s asymmetric defense strategy, currently fielding more than 1,000 specialized crews trained for high-precision operations.

Earlier, the Dutch Ministry of Defense announced its commitment to help finance a fresh $500 million military aid package for Ukraine, consisting of weaponry, gear, and munitions drawn from US inventories. This support is being coordinated through NATO’s Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List initiative.
