On the night of August 28, Ukrainian forces launched a successful attack on three key Russian targets: two oil depots and a field artillery depot. The strikes targeted facilities in the Rostov, Kirov, and Voronezh regions.

“On the night of August 28, an attack was made on the 'Atlas' oil depot in the Rostov region of the Russian Federation. As a result of the attack, a fire broke out on the territory of the vertical tanks of the facility. It is known that fire engines were called in to eliminate the consequences of the fire.”

The General Staff reported that the operation was carried out by units of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in collaboration with the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense, and other components of the Defense Forces. They further confirmed that “In addition, the Zenit oil depot in the Kirov region and the field artillery of the Russian military group Zapad in the Voronezh region of the Russian Federation were hit.”

The Zenit oil depot, located in the Kirov region of the Russian Federation, is approximately 1,500 km from the Ukrainian border.

Earlier reports from Russian Telegram channels and authorities indicated that loud explosions led to fires at two oil depots in the Rostov region on the night of August 28.

Preliminary information suggested that the “Atlas” facility of Rosrezerv was among those affected. This follows a previous attack three weeks earlier, on August 3, when HUR used drones to target a fuel and lubricant warehouse at the same “Atlas” plant in the Rostov region.

Sources within Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs have confirmed that the August 28 attack on the Rostov oil depot was a coordinated operation involving the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Special Operations Forces, utilizing Ukrainian-made attack UAVs.

“The defense forces continue to take all measures to undermine the military and economic potential of the Russian occupiers and stop Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine,” the Ukrainian Defense Forces added in the statement.
