President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has confirmed that Ukraine has officially submitted a request for US-made Patriot air defense systems and other military equipment to the administration of US President Donald Trump.

The request was delivered through US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during a recent high-level meeting in Canada.

Speaking to journalists, Zelenskyy said the list of requested weapons was handed over by Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko and Head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak. According to the President, the package includes a substantial amount of military aid, notably Patriot systems.

“We are ready to finance the entire package,” Zelenskyy stated. He noted that the issue will likely be discussed in future direct talks with President Trump, adding that sanctions and diplomatic efforts will also be part of the broader agenda.

Ukraine is now awaiting feedback from the United States regarding the submitted request.

Zelenskyy emphasized that the conversation with Bessent was not limited to military matters. It also included discussions about a minerals agreement between Ukraine and the United States, indicating a broader framework of economic and defense cooperation.

During the briefing, the Ukrainian president said his administration is maintaining regular communication with both the current and incoming US teams.

He did not confirm whether a direct meeting with Trump would take place during the upcoming NATO summit but stated that Ukraine is open to discussions at the level of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, also known as the “Coalition of the Willing.”

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine is proposing that partner states allocate 0.25% of their GDP to support Ukraine’s defense-industrial base as part of broader European security. He added that this approach has been positively received in recent meetings, including discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Separately, Zelenskyy reported advances in Ukraine’s domestic production of weapons to counter loitering munitions like the Iranian-made Shahed drones used by Russia. He said that four Ukrainian companies are producing interceptors, with two showing strong results.

“Our mobile fire groups are no longer relying on machine guns. We have begun using interceptors, and today dozens of enemy drones were shot down using this technology,” he stated.

Germany and Canada have agreed to support the development and mass production of these systems. According to Zelenskyy, Canada has already doubled its pledged funding for Ukraine’s air defense program to $4 billion following discussions at the recent G7 summit.

Earlier, President Zelenskyy urged allies to stop keeping Patriot systems in storage and deploy them to protect lives in Ukraine. He also called for joint air defense production to be localized in Ukraine, pending political decisions from international partners.
