Ukraine’s Armed Forces (UAF) struck vital Russian oil facilities as part of efforts to disrupt Moscow’s war machine, General Staff of UAF reported on September 20.

The Saratov Oil Refinery, which processes over 7 million tons of oil annually, was hit, causing explosions and a large fire.

Another attack targeted the Novokuybyshevsk Refinery in Samara, which processes 8.8 million tons of oil per year, with similar results, according to the General Staff.

Additionally, Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces struck the Samara linear-production-dispatch station (LVDSS), vital for Russia’s oil exports, specifically producing Urals-grade oil. The full extent of damage is still being assessed.

These strikes aim to weaken Russia’s military supply chains by targeting its oil refining sector, further intensifying the pressure on Russia’s war efforts, Ukraine’s General Staff writes.

Previously, a major oil and petrochemical facility in Russia’s Bashkortostan region came under drone attack overnight. Video and photos shared online showed smoke rising over the city of Salavat following explosions.
