Ukraine to Build New Generation Explosives Manufacturing Plant in Lithuania
On October 16, Lithuania's Ministry of Economy and Innovation signed a memorandum with a Ukrainian company to collaborate on the construction of a new-generation explosives manufacturing plant.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Economy stated that the construction of the hexagon (RDX) explosives facility would enhance the defense capabilities of Ukraine, Lithuania, and Europe. Construction is expected to commence next year.
"We are actively developing defense cooperation with our partner Ukraine. The establishment of the new explosives manufacturing plant in Lithuania sends a clear message to the aggressor that we will not back down. The defense potential of Ukraine and Europe is increasing and will continue to grow, both in terms of armaments and munitions, as well as advanced defense and security technologies," said Minister of Economy and Innovation Aušrinė Armonaitė.
The announcement highlighted that RDX explosives can be utilized independently or in combination with other explosives and are intended for producing various bombs, mines, and other explosive materials. Explosives made from this material are widely employed by NATO armed forces.
Deputy Minister of Economy and Innovation Erika Kuročkina emphasized that the new-generation plant being built by Ukrainians in Lithuania will significantly contribute to the development of the country's defense industry.
Earlier in September, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that a heat and power plant in Lithuania is being transferred to Ukraine to support its energy sector.
