Russia Hits Kyiv–Mykolaiv Passenger Train as Attacks on Railway Infrastructure Continue

Russian forces struck a Kyiv–Mykolaiv passenger train, though no casualties were reported after passengers and railway staff were evacuated in time, Ukraine’s state railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia reported.

According to the company, passengers and the train crew were moved to safety following the strike. Ukrzaliznytsia said it was coordinating with the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration to arrange bus transfers for passengers so they could continue their journey.

Ukrzaliznytsia CEO Oleksandr Pertsovskyi called for a firm response from Ukraine’s international partners to Russian attacks on railway infrastructure.

“We expect decisive action from our partners, and not only when strikes occur near the border or close to diplomatic trains! No such strike is acceptable!” Pertsovskyi said.

The attack follows a series of recent Russian strikes targeting passenger trains and railway infrastructure across Ukraine. On September 9, a Russian Shahed-type drone struck a passenger train traveling between Kharkiv and Izium, injuring at least seven people.

According to the Izium City Military Administration, the drone hit the rear section of the train at around 10 a.m. while it was at a railway station near the village of Iskra in Kharkiv region, causing a fire.

Just four days later, on September 13, another Russian drone hit the locomotive of a Kyiv–Warsaw passenger train in Ukraine’s Volyn region, roughly two kilometers from the Polish border. No injuries were reported, with Ukrzaliznytsia saying its monitoring team had warned the train crew of the threat in advance.

The same September 13 attack also damaged infrastructure near the Yahodyn–Dorohusk international border crossing, a major transport route between Ukraine and Poland.
