Russian Shahed Drone Strikes Passenger Train in Kharkiv Region, Injuring at Least Seven

A Russian Shahed-type drone struck a passenger train traveling from Kharkiv to Izium on September 9, injuring at least seven people.
This was reported by Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Chairman of the Board of Ukrzaliznytsia.

According to Izium City Military Administration, the attack occurred at approximately 10 a.m. at a railway station near the village of Iskra in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region. The drone hit the rear section of the Kharkiv–Izium train, causing a fire.
“The enemy continues to insidiously target passenger trains, and sometimes the time between detecting the threat and the strike is measured in minutes,” Pertsovskyi told Suspilne Kharkiv.
Emergency medical teams were deployed to the scene and were providing assistance to the victims.
Authorities said information on the full consequences of the attack was still being clarified.
The strike comes amid continued Russian attacks on Ukraine’s railway infrastructure and passenger trains. In an earlier attack, Russian drones struck a suburban diesel train in Ukraine’s Sumy region, injuring at least 10 people, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (DSNS) reported.
The attack set the locomotive and one of the passenger cars on fire, prompting emergency crews to extinguish the blaze and evacuate the injured to waiting ambulances.
As rescuers were working at the scene, Russian forces carried out a second strike on the same location. The Real War Telegram channel described the follow-up attack as a “repeat cynical strike.”
No emergency personnel were injured in the second attack, according to the DSNS. Rescue crews subsequently extinguished the remaining fires at the site.
Russia has also targeted other civilian facilities in recent attacks. On September 8, a Russian attack drone struck the Kyiv office of television channel Wt—Ukraine while journalists were broadcasting live as part of the “United News” telethon.
The broadcaster reported that the daytime strike partially destroyed the building and wounded several employees. DSNS crews extinguished the resulting fire, while preliminary reports indicated that at least five people were injured. Authorities warned that the casualty toll could rise.
