The blackout was confirmed at 8:22 PM on September 8, 2026, by Heorhiy Reshetilov, acting head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.

Earlier in the day on September 8, the Ukrainian Air Force issued a warning regarding a potential attack by Russian jet-powered strike drones approaching Mykolaiv from a westerly direction.
The Kyiv City Administration stockpiled essential food and drinking water reserves to prepare for potential prolonged power outages and other emergencies ahead of the 2026–2027 autumn-winter period.
The initiative was primarily designed to ensure immediate assistance for low-income residents and individuals facing difficult life circumstances if the capital’s energy system was compromised.
The city’s preparations followed severe utility disruptions during the previous winter, when Russian strikes on critical energy infrastructure repeatedly left large parts of the capital without electricity, water, or heating.
