Russian Shahed Drone Strikes Kyiv TV Newsroom Mid-Broadcast, Wounding Five

Russia struck the Kyiv offices of the television channel "My – Ukraine" with an attack drone on September 8. The strike hit the newsroom in daylight, while journalists broadcast live as part of the "United News" telethon .

The broadcaster reported that the drone partially destroyed the building and wounded several members of its staff. State Emergency Service (DSNS) crews extinguished the fire, and initial accounts listed five people injured, a figure authorities warned could rise.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the attack as a deliberate strike on the press. "Shaheds against the media are a new page of Russian degradation," he wrote on Telegram, calling for a firm response from Europe and the wider world.

Zelenskyy emphasized that the drone hit the building in the middle of the day, precisely when journalists were on air. No strike on Ukraine and its people should be left unpunished, he added.

The daytime attack followed a large overnight missile and drone assault on the capital that killed two people and injured at least 10, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Kyiv's military administration reported that air defenses engaged more than 170 aerial targets, with damage recorded across several districts, including residential buildings and a school.

The daytime timing echoed a series of recent Russian assaults that have pushed strikes into daylight hours. On August 20, a drone attack on Kyiv killed two people and wounded three, hitting a business center and a critical infrastructure facility.

Weeks earlier, on July 8, a drawn-out daytime barrage of jet-powered drones left three dead and 13 injured across the capital.
