On the afternoon of August 20, Russian forces launched a drone attack on Kyiv, killing two people and wounding three others, according to Suspilne Kyiv.

The strike hit a critical infrastructure facility for the first time in several months, potentially disrupting hot water supplies in the Desnianskyi district and parts of the Dniprovskyi district.

The daylight assault targeted the Holosiivskyi district twice. Falling drone debris caused a fire in a business center, where rescuers found one deceased person and two injured individuals.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze on the roof of the administrative building by 7:03 p.m. Police confirmed that the victim at the business center was a 50-year-old man.

A second strike in the Holosiivskyi district hit a non-residential area around 8:00 p.m., killing one person and injuring another. Authorities warned residents of deteriorating air quality in the district due to the resulting fires.

Emergency crews also continued operations in the Solomianskyi district, where a nine-story residential building and nearby homes sustained damage.

The afternoon strikes followed an overnight missile and drone attack on the capital and surrounding region. The nighttime barrage killed 15 people and injured over 30 in Kyiv, damaging nearly 20 residential buildings, a school, a kindergarten, and a children's hospital across three districts.

In the Kyiv region, one man died in the Brovary district, and eight people were injured, primarily in the Boryspil district. The night assault caused power outages in Brovary and ignited fires at two fuel facilities, warehouses, and private residences.
