A Russian drone strike hit the locomotive of a Kyiv-Warsaw passenger train in Ukraine’s Volyn region on September 13, approximately two kilometers from the Polish border.

According to state railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia, no injuries were reported. Ukrzaliznytsia said a monitoring team had warned the train crew about the threat in advance.

The same Russian attack also struck infrastructure near the Yahodyn-Dorohusk international border crossing, one of the main road links between Ukraine and Poland.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported the strike near the Yahodyn crossing on September 13. Valentyna Chernysh, a spokesperson for the Volyn Customs Service, told Suspilne that falling drone debris caused a fire at a nearby gas station and several trucks parked at the site.

Border operations were temporarily suspended during the air raid alert while personnel and other people at the crossing took shelter. The Yahodyn-Dorohusk checkpoint later resumed normal operations.

Sybiha said the strikes near the Polish border amounted to Putin’s terror “knocking” directly on the doors of the EU and NATO and called on Ukraine’s partners to impose broader sanctions on Russia.

“Act now: throw the full weight of your sanctions at Putin’s aggressive regime. Make Moscow feel the consequences of its terror. Not just half-decisions, but uncompromising, powerful steps. Full trade embargo. Full entry bans. Full sanctions on the military-industrial complex,” Sybiha wrote.

Earlier, on September 12, Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone attack across Ukraine, killing at least four people and injuring civilians in Odesa, Kryvyi Rih, Zaporizhzhia, and the Kyiv region.
