Ukraine to Mass-Produce “Last Mile” Smart Drone System That Locks Onto Targets Automatically

Ukrainian defense-tech company TAF Drones has finalized NATO-standard certification of its automated guidance module, Last Mile, and is preparing for mass production, according to a company statement on June 26.
The system is designed to enhance drone targeting accuracy, especially under electronic warfare conditions. It enables unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to maintain focus on targets or complete their missions even in cases of signal disruption or loss of operator control.
Engineered to assist drone operators on the battlefield, Last Mile uses multiple optical channels—daylight, night vision, and thermal—to automatically adjust the drone’s trajectory and guide it toward both static and moving targets.
The system is designed for use with various drone platforms and can be installed at the operator’s convenience.

According to TAF Drones, the module provides a targeting accuracy of up to one meter when engaging stationary objects and can lock onto and track a target from a distance of up to 500 meters.
The system is also capable of capturing moving targets at ranges of 150 meters and maintaining tracking speeds up to 60 km/h in wind conditions of up to 10 m/s.
The company highlights the module’s ability to fix targets even when the UAV is traveling at speeds of up to 120 km/h. Additional features include intelligent trajectory correction and the option to abort missions mid-flight.
The Last Mile module is designed to increase mission success rates in high-threat environments and is expected to support broader deployment of Ukrainian-made UAVs across the front lines.
Earlier on June 26, Ukraine’s 225th Assault Regiment reported eliminating a Russian assault group near Andriivka in the Sumy region using domestically made Foot Crusher drone munitions. The strike was carried out by the Black Swan battalion and targeted enemy forces in a contested area recently retaken by Ukrainian troops.
