Ukraine plans to acquire approximately 4.5 million first-person view (FPV) drones in 2025, more than doubling last year’s procurement rate as the war with Russia becomes increasingly high-tech, Kyiv’s Defense Ministry announced on March 10.
“In 2023, the Ministry of Defense was purchasing drones in the thousands. By the end of 2024, together with the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine, we had procured over 1.5 million drones,” said Hlib Kanevskyi, Director of the Procurement Policy Department at Ukraine’s Defense Ministry.
According to him, 96% of these funds were paid to Ukrainian manufacturers and suppliers, significantly boosting the development of Ukraine’s drone production industry.

“This year, the numbers will be even higher, as Ukraine’s defense industry is capable of producing approximately 4.5 million FPV drones in 2025. The Ministry of Defense plans to purchase them all,” Kanevskyi added.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense plans to allocate over 110 billion UAH ($2.6 billion) for drone procurement this year, with more than 102 billion UAH ($2.4 billion) channeled through the Defense Procurement Agency.
In a statement released on Monday, Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, reported that Ukrainian drones destroyed 22% more targets in February compared to January.
