Ukraine’s Commander-in-Chief Reveals Number of Russian Tank and APCs Losses in 2025

Ukrainian Armed Forces have destroyed more than 1,000 Russian tanks and over 2,500 armored vehicles since the beginning of 2025, according to Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi.
In a statement published on his official Facebook page on May 17, Syrskyi said: “Since the start of this year, the Defense Forces have struck 1,159 enemy tanks and 2,510 armored combat vehicles.” He added that Ukrainian troops continue to target Russian equipment and personnel on the battlefield.

Лише від початку цього року Сили оборони уразили понад тисячу танків окупантів (1 159) та більш як дві з половиною тисячі бойових бронемашин (2 510).

Alongside the post, Syrskyi shared a video compilation showing footage of Russian military hardware being destroyed during combat operations.
The figures underscore the ongoing intensity of the fighting and the scale of losses sustained by Russian forces in the fifth month of 2025.
Earlier in the war, Ukraine’s ability to counter Russian armored vehicles was severely limited. At the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian forces had roughly ten times fewer tanks and combat vehicles than Russia.
However, a rapid transformation in the drone industry reversed that imbalance. By mid-2025, Ukraine’s General Staff reported nearly 10,000 Russian tanks destroyed—largely due to drones.
This shift began with improvised adaptations of commercial quadcopters, like the Mavic, which were modified to drop munitions on Russian targets. As the war progressed, Ukraine formalized drone warfare into a full-scale industry, producing 1.4 million drones in 2024 alone.
FPV drones, many assembled in small workshops, have since become one of the most cost-effective weapons in Ukraine’s arsenal, capable of destroying tanks worth millions at a fraction of the cost.
