Ukraine’s Drone Manufacturing Surges, With Over 20 New Fiber-Optic Models Certified in 2025

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced significant progress in the country’s drone production capabilities, citing the addition of over 20 new certified fiber-optic-controlled drone models since the beginning of the year.
In a statement made on April 7, Zelenskyy emphasized the expansion of drone production across various categories, from smaller systems like Mavics to long-range drones.
Since the beginning of this year, 11 Ukrainian enterprises have mastered the production of fiber-optic drones, an advancement Zelenskyy deemed crucial for the country’s military efforts.
“We are working separately on fiber-optic drones,” he noted, adding that more than 20 new certified samples of these drones had already been introduced. The president urged further collaboration, instructing the conclusion of contracts to maximize production capacity.
He highlighted the expansion of capabilities in unmanned systems, noting that Ukrainian manufacturers are not only producing drones but also advancing the development of ground robotic systems.
Additionally, Zelenskyy pointed to positive trends in deep strike capabilities, although he refrained from providing specific figures. However, he did assure that Ukraine would meet the necessary volume of deep-strike operations for its Defense Forces in the coming months.
In related news, Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reported on April 7 that Ukrainian drones destroyed over 77,000 Russian targets in March, marking a 10% increase from February.
