Ukrainian drone forces carried out a targeted nighttime strike on a Russian military facility in the village of Berdyanske, Donetsk region, resulting in over 120 casualties among elite Russian GRU  troops.

According to Ukrainian military intelligence, the attack was conducted by the 1st Separate Center of the Unmanned Systems Forces (SBS), formerly known as the 14th Separate Regiment.

The strike was confirmed by SBS Commander Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, who shared footage and details of the operation on his social media on December 28.

The strike took place overnight on December 26 and specifically targeted the temporary deployment site and command center of Russia’s 14th Special Purpose Brigade of the GRU, Russia’s military intelligence agency.

According to Brovdi, at least 51 Russian servicemen were confirmed killed and 74 wounded. The exact number of missing or trapped under debris has not been disclosed.

The SBS employed Ukrainian-made FP-1 and FP-2 drones in the operation. According to the open-source intelligence project “Kyber Boroshno,” five separate buildings were struck, with one of them targeted twice. The location was reportedly being used as a command and coordination hub for the brigade.

The destroyed unit was based in Ussuriysk, Russia, and is part of the Russian military’s elite forces responsible for reconnaissance and special operations.

If verified, this incident would mark one of the most significant single-night losses for the GRU in its operational history. According to Ukrainian military commentary, the toll from this one strike approaches half the total GRU casualties recorded during both Chechen wars, where an estimated 320 special forces personnel were lost.

Earlier, Ukraine’s drone forces struck Russia’s Syzran Oil Refinery, disabling its only primary processing unit, and targeted military sites in occupied Crimea, including a Valday radar, a reconnaissance command post, and a maritime drone base in Chornomorske.
