Ukraine's School Year Begins Amidst Russian Missile Attacks
Today, on September 2, despite Russia’s shelling, and destruction of schools and energy infrastructure, the new school year begins in Ukraine.
President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated Ukraine’s readiness for this academic year despite all challenges.
“Today is one of the most important days of the year for millions of our Ukrainian children, families, and teachers, wrote Zelenskyy. “I am grateful to everyone who made this school year possible for Ukraine: to all the teachers who work in our country, and to everyone who protects our cities and villages. Ukraine is doing everything to give children as many opportunities as possible. And all our schools, all higher education institutions that are working today are proof of the resilience of our people and the strength of Ukraine,” wrote Zelenskyy.
Russia has been attacking Ukrainian civil infrastructure on a daily basis, including hospitals, schools, and markets. Early on September 2, Russian forces launched a massive missile attack on the capital Kyiv, as families were preparing their kids for the first day of school.
