Oleksiy Sai’s installation Black Cloud, which was destroyed by a desert storm on the opening day of Burning Man 2025 in Nevada, has been reborn as a new work titled No Fate.

According to Suspilne Culture, the transformation of the piece carries forward the core message of Black Cloud’s call to “Get Ready!”—that invisible threats are real, yet the future is not predetermined and remains in our hands. The concept emphasizes that society has a choice: to resist looming dangers instead of adapting to them.

The title No Fate is derived from the phrase “No fate but what we make,” a line spoken by Sarah Connor in the Terminator franchise, Suspilne reported. By adopting this iconic phrase, the installation underscores the belief that human agency and determination can reshape the course of events.

“In fact, when we were thinking about this year’s work, the image of Sarah Connor screaming this phrase to the world—to warn about danger and the need to stop it—came to mind very often,” explained executive producer Vitaliy Deineha. “I am absolutely convinced that if Western states do not urgently break into the arms and military technology race, a similar example could soon come knocking at their door as well.”

Earlier, Ukraine presented I’m Fine installation at Burning Man symbolizing the resilience of the Ukrainian people amid war.

The large, brightly colored letters spelling out I’m Fine appear playful from afar, but up close reveal fragments of street signs, fences, and gates scarred by Russian rockets and shells. The work transforms remnants of destruction into a powerful message of endurance and defiance.
