Ukrainian Defense Forces have significantly expanded their capacity to repair US-supplied M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, as reported by the Logistics Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on March 29.

The intensification of frontline operations and the growing number of Bradley vehicles in service have required Ukrainian specialists to accelerate repair timelines. According to the Logistics Forces, repair units have mastered the servicing of engines, components, specialized electronics, and weapon systems for the M2A2 ODS-SA variant.

The current repair framework allows Ukrainian specialists to restore vehicles with damage categorized under the first three levels of severity. Units with the most extensive damage, classified as fourth category, are transferred either to the original manufacturer or to repair facilities in Europe capable of handling advanced restoration.

From January to the end of February 2025, over 20 Bradley vehicles were restored. For comparison, 60 were repaired throughout 2024, while only 12 were restored in 2023, the first year these vehicles were introduced into Ukrainian service.

The pace of repair has been made possible by the use of donor vehicles—damaged beyond repair but still usable for spare parts—and by improvements in logistics. Parts delivery now takes only a few days from request to arrival, ensuring a consistent supply chain.

Approximately 300 Bradley vehicles are currently in service with Ukrainian forces, making it the most widely used Western infantry fighting vehicle in Ukraine’s arsenal.

In addition to restoring combat functionality, Ukrainian specialists are adapting the vehicles for modern threats. Refurbished Bradleys are equipped with electronic warfare systems and other countermeasures to protect against FPV drone attacks, increasing crew survivability.

The repair teams consist of highly trained specialists, including engine technicians, electricians, welders, and armament experts. Some have received training and certification abroad to meet technical standards.

According to the Logistics Forces Command, Ukrainian technicians have demonstrated the capability to restore vehicles previously considered beyond repair. Western partners have acknowledged the efficiency and resilience of Ukrainian repair operations, which have proven critical in maintaining the country’s frontline readiness.

Earlier, Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger announced plans to establish a repair center in Ukraine to service Leopard 1 and 2 tanks, Marder IFVs, and German-made artillery systems, with operations expected to begin in the coming months.
