Ukrainian Drones Damage 2 Rare Russian TOS-1A “Solntsepyok” Heavy Flamethrower Systems
The “Achilles” Drone Battalion of the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade successfully targeted and damaged two Russian TOC-1A “Solntsepyok” (Blazing Sun) heavy flamethrower systems in the Kharkiv region, according to the battalion commander report on November 8.
“These expertly prepared drones, combined with our operators' skill, can penetrate any enemy armor,” emphasized the commander.
Both flamethrower systems were reportedly hit from the rear, specifically impacting their launchers.
While there was no recorded detonation, suggesting they were struck post-mission, the damage rendered these vehicles temporarily inoperable, forcing them into repair and reducing Russian combat effectiveness in the area.
The 24-barrel TOS-1A “Solntsepyok” is a multiple rocket launcher capable of using thermobaric warheads mounted on a T-72/T-90 tank chassis.
The Russian forces are actively using the “Solntsepyok'‘ system to strike light armored vehicles and manpower, and to destroy fortifications.
“Solntsepyok” uses thermobaric 220-mm shells MO.1.01.04M, which are 3700 mm long and weigh 217 kg.
Earlier, the 79th Air Assault Brigade reported destroying a dozen Russian vehicles and a rare “Terminator” tank support combat vehicle in the Kurakhove direction.
