Ukrainian Drones Strike Russian Chemical Plant Over 1,000 Kilometers From Border

Ukrainian drones attacked Uralchem’s KCKK chemical plant in Kirovo-Chepetsk, in Russia’s Kirov region, the facility linked to military production and chemicals used in explosives, according to Militarnyi on March 13. 

The report suggested the strike hit a facility more than 1,000 kilometers from Ukraine’s border. It identified the target as a major fertilizer plant.

Militarnyi reported that the plant produces ammonium nitrate, which has civilian uses but can also support military-related production. Information on the scale of the damage remained unclear.

Kirov region governor Alexander Sokolov confirmed the drone attack on Kirovo-Chepetsk. He wrote, “Emergency services are working on the scene, there are no casualties.”

Separate reports also detailed the incident at the Kirovo-Chepetsk chemical plant and its aftermath.

Footage posted online showed smoke and fire at a Uralchem-linked chemical plant in Kirovo-Chepetsk in Russia’s Kirov region after the reported drone strike.

The report noted that the plant produces fertilizers, including ammonium nitrate, and residents described loud blasts followed by a glow and rising smoke as emergency services responded while officials released few details.
