Ukrainian Drones Target 3 Strategic Russian Alcohol Plants Used for Military Purposes
Ukrainian drone attacks set fire to three alcohol production facilities in two Russian regions, governors of Russian Tula and Tambov regions reported on October 22.
The governor confirmed that buildings at the Yefremovsky Alcohol Plant and the Lushkovsky Alcohol Plant in Suvorovsky District were “damaged” in the attacks.
Emergency services were deployed to the scene, and while fires broke out, the situation is said to be under control, with no casualties reported.
Russian media have circulated footage from eyewitnesses showing significant fires at the targeted facilities following the drone strikes.
Meanwhile, the governor of Tambov region reported an explosion and subsequent fire at the “Biochim” plant in the city of Rasskazovo. No injuries were recorded, Russian reports identified “Biochim” as an alcohol plant.
Additionally, in Voronezh region, the governor stated that a drone struck an industrial facility, causing a small fire on one of the floors. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene, and there were no casualties. The exact nature of the enterprise remains unknown.
According to Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Ukrainian Center for Countering Disinformation, Russian alcohol plants are not only involved in ethanol production but are also used to create military-grade fuels and explosives, making them strategic targets.
Kovalenko confirmed that Ukrainian drones targeted four facilities inside Russia, “Biochim” — specializing in molasses processing and ethanol production, Lushkovsky Alcohol Plant, Yefremovsky Alcohol Plant and an industrial enterprise in Voronezh region.
“Despite their civilian facade, these are military facilities,” Kovalenko added.
Earlier, explosions were heard on the explosives factory in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region reportedly following a drone strike and air defense activity.
