Ukrainian Forces Capture Russian Strongholds in Kharkiv, Advancing 2 Square Kilometers
On August 22, the Third Separate Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine advanced nearly 2 square kilometers into the Russian positions in the Kharkiv region. They released a video, disclosing the details of their counterattack, capturing the battalion defense positions along with enemy platoon and company strongholds.
As of now, stabilization efforts are in progress at the site of the recent counterattack, according to the brigade’s press officer, Oleksandr Borodin. Borodin detailed the significant damage inflicted on the positions and logistics of the Russian 20th Army as a result of the operation.
“Stabilization actions are currently underway,” Borodin reported. “In general, the fortifications have already been established, resulting in a relatively stable situation. One of the key successes is that we have effectively hindered the Russian 20th Army from advancing further. They intended to either move towards Makiivka or redistribute their personnel, forces, and resources to other fronts. Currently, they are attempting to restore some of their positions and build a new defensive line. From a military perspective, disrupting their plans and destroying their forces is even more crucial than the mere reclamation of territory.”
Borodin was asked whether the Third Assault Division’s operation was connected to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' activities in the Kursk region. He described it as a “synchronized success,” emphasizing the broader strategic impact. Despite the setbacks, including substantial personnel losses, Borodin noted that the Russian army still has significant reserves, though their effectiveness is compromised by logistical failures.
“Their reserves are substantial,” he explained. “They have a system in place that nearly ensures a continuous supply of infantry reserves. They also possess considerable artillery and other assets. However, disrupted plans and logistics can diminish the advantage of sheer numbers.”
Colonel Andriy Biletskyi, the brigade commander, outlined the main objective of the operation: to diminish the offensive capabilities of the Russian 20th Army. “The mission has been accomplished,” he confirmed.
Over the course of the operation, the Russian army suffered the loss of approximately 300 soldiers, and a significant amount of equipment and weaponry was either destroyed or damaged.
Colonel Biletskyi highlighted the operation’s uniqueness, noting, “We faced an overwhelming enemy and emerged victorious. The success was due to meticulous planning, innovative tactics, and the coordinated efforts of artillery, air defense, BPS, and intelligence. The true heroes of the battlefield were our tankers, sappers, scouts, and, above all, the attack aircraft.”
