Ukrainian Forces Capture Uzbek Fighter Promised Cash and a Russian Passport

Ukrainian defenders from the 63rd Mechanized Brigade “Steel Lions” have captured a citizen of Uzbekistan who had joined Russian forces in hopes of earning a passport and cash.
According to the brigade on May 13, the man was wounded during an assault, got lost, and ended up at Ukrainian positions, where he surrendered. He told Ukrainian soldiers he had not been mistreated and was treated with respect.
The detainee said he came to Russia as a construction worker, trying to escape low wages back home. There, he was promised Russian citizenship and financial rewards in exchange for one year of military service.

“They paid 2 million rubles,” he said. “I spent 100,000, sent 800,000 home, and 1.1 million is still on my card.”
He had never served in the military before. After just a few days at the front, he says he regretted his decision.
“I thought it was just army service. But this isn’t an army, this is about killing people,” the prisoner said.
Earlier, two North Korean soldiers were captured by Ukrainian forces in Russia’s Kursk region. According to Yonhap News Agency, one of the detainees revealed “significant” casualties among North Korean troops deployed to support Russia. South Korean intelligence estimates that more than 100 North Korean soldiers have been killed and around 1,000 wounded in the past month alone.
