Ukrainian Forces Destroy Russian $10M Electronic Warfare System and Howitzer in Kursk Region

According to Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces, Ukrainian troops successfully targeted a Russian R-330Zh “Zhitel” electronic warfare (EW) system and a 152mm Msta-B howitzer in Russia’s Kursk region.
The operation was carried out by a unit of the Special Operations Forces (SSO) in coordination with the 140th SSO Center. Reconnaissance drones monitored the strikes, capturing precise hits on Russian positions near a forested area.
Footage from the operation indicates that high-precision artillery munitions were used to engage the R-330Zh system, detonating above the target. The strike resulted in the reported elimination of personnel operating the EW system, with the complex itself likely sustaining critical damage or being completely disabled.
The OSINT group “KiberBoroshno” identified the targeted Russian EW system’s location near the village of Belitsa in the Kursk region. Additionally, aerial reconnaissance detected a camouflaged firing position where a Msta-B howitzer was positioned.
After confirming coordinates, Ukrainian forces launched an artillery strike on the position. While the extent of damage to the howitzer is unclear, analysts suggest it was likely rendered inoperable.
The 152mm Msta-B howitzer was identified north of the settlement of Spalnoe, also in the Kursk region. Ukrainian forces have previously targeted similar EW complexes, as they are used by Russian troops to disrupt satellite communications and navigation signals.
The R-330Zh “Zhitel” is a Russian EW system designed for automated detection, direction-finding, and analysis of radio emissions. It is claimed to jam satellite communication terminals, GPS navigation systems, and GSM cellular networks. The destruction of such equipment degrades Russian battlefield situational awareness and communications capabilities.
Earlier, Ukrainian forces destroyed a Russian 96L6E radar, a key component of the S-400 air defense system, significantly degrading Russian air defense capabilities in the area. The radar, responsible for detecting airborne targets, was reportedly struck while its crew was inside, resulting in personnel casualties.
