Ukrainian Armed Forces targeted and destroyed a Russian 96L6E self-propelled radar station, a critical component of the S-400 ‘Triumf’  air defense system, reported the ‘Chornyi Lis’ brigade on January 27.

The 96L6E radar plays a pivotal role in the S-400 system, as it is responsible for detecting airborne targets at medium and high altitudes. Its destruction significantly undermines Russian air defense capabilities in the affected area. Reports suggest that the radar crew was likely inside the vehicle during the strike, resulting in injuries among Russian personnel.

The 96L6E radar operates in the X-band frequency range (8-12 GHz) and boasts a maximum detection range of up to 300 kilometers. Its phased-array antenna enables high-resolution imaging and rapid scanning of airspace.

Integrated into the overall command and control system, the radar can function in coordination with other components of the S-400 complex.

Earlier, Ukrainian FPV drones targeted three Russian air defense systems in the rear areas of enemy-held territory.
