Ukrainian Drones Hit Russian Tor-M2 and Buk-M3 Systems in Zaporizhzhia and Belgorod Regions
Ukrainian FPV drones have successfully targeted three Russian air defense systems in the rear areas of enemy-held territory, according to reports from various units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces on January 22.
The “Ronin” unit of the 65th Separate Mechanized Brigade struck a Tor-M2 air defense system south of Novomykolaivka, located in the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia region. The drone strike hit the radar lift mechanism, reportedly disabling the system. The attack occurred approximately 42 kilometers from the frontline.
In another operation, the same unit targeted a Buk-M3 air defense system west of the settlement of Zaporizhzhia. The drone struck the missile launch container of a 9M317M missile, about 35 kilometers from the frontline. While the exact extent of the damage has not been confirmed, it is believed that the strike may have damaged or disabled the missile.
A separate operation by the “Perun” battalion of unmanned systems from the 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade targeted another Tor-M2 system near the village of Hrafivka in Russia’s Belgorod region. This strike occurred approximately 13 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, hitting the radar station on the vehicle. The location was about 23 kilometers from territory controlled by Ukrainian forces.
Although none of the air defense systems have been confirmed as destroyed, the damage to the Tor-M2 systems is likely to require repairs, rendering them temporarily inoperable.
Earlier, on January 20, Ukrainian drones struck an oil depot in Lisky, Voronezh region, Russia, marking the second attack on the facility within a week.
