Russian Cavalry Charge Ends With Ukraine Gaining New Evacuation Assets

Ukrainian soldiers from the 1st Separate Assault Regiment named after Dmytro Kotsiubailo have successfully eliminated two Russian troops advancing on horseback and seized their horses, which will now be repurposed for battlefield evacuation.
According to Regiment Commander Dmytro “Perun” Filatov, the horses were not harmed during the firefight.
“No animals were harmed during the defensive operation,” the regiment stated.
The unusual assault occurred as Russian forces attempted to storm Ukrainian defensive positions using mounted troops—a tactic rarely seen in modern warfare. Ukrainian scouts had alerted defenders in advance, enabling the unit to prepare for the attack.

Ukrainian fighters then opened fire and neutralized the riders. The animals were safely recovered and, as Filatov noted, will be used to help evacuate wounded Ukrainian soldiers from the front line to the rear.
Notably, Russian troops have been observed using horses to carry mobile Starlink satellite terminals, allowing soldiers—especially drone operators—to maintain internet connectivity while on the move.
Previously, it was reported that Ukrainian military engineers have discovered that Russian forces are now wiring Starlink satellite terminals on their drones with explosive traps, raising concerns over the safety of capturing such equipment and the increasing use of Western technology by Russian troops.
