Ukrainian drone operators destroyed three Russian Tor surface-to-air missile systems in a single overnight operation, according to Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, who reported the strike on February 20.

The operation was carried out by FP-2 strike drone crews from the 1st Separate Center of the Unmanned Systems Forces, with coordination from the newly established Middle Strike Coordination Center.

All three Tor systems were located in Russian-occupied areas of the Zaporizhzhia region.

Brovdi described the operation as a coordinated and simultaneous strike against short-range air defense assets.

“In one night, the Birds of the Unmanned Systems Forces destroyed three Tor air defense systems,” he wrote. “All three were located in the temporarily occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region. The operation was carried out simultaneously by the 1st Separate Center of the Unmanned Systems Forces under the coordination of the Middle Strike Coordination Center.”

He added that systematically detecting and destroying components of Russia’s layered air defense network—from long-range to short-range systems—remains a priority.

“The newly created Coordination Center is gaining momentum. In one night, roughly $75 million was eliminated. But more importantly, this was a strike against the enemy’s short-range air defense echelon, which consistently creates serious problems.”

The strike reportedly used FP-2 “middle strike” drones equipped with 60-kilogram warheads, which Brovdi said leave “no chance” for lightly armored air defense systems.

The Tor system is a mobile short-range surface-to-air missile platform designed to protect troops and critical assets from aircraft, cruise missiles, and drones. Eliminating such systems can temporarily weaken localized air defense coverage and open opportunities for further aerial operations.

Earlier, Ukraine’s General Staff reported its forces struck a launcher of a Russian S-300VM air defense missile system, drone control points, and concentrations of Russian forces and equipment in a series of overnight attacks.
