Ukrainian FP-5 Flamingo Missiles Hit Key Russian Explosives Plant in Samara Region

Ukrainian forces struck the Promsintez explosives plant in Russia’s Samara region, using domestically produced FP-5 Flamingo missiles, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on February 28.
The General Staff reported that the strike was carried out by soldiers from the missile forces and artillery of Ukraine’s Ground Forces.
The targeted facility reportedly manufactures components for explosives used to equip ammunition, including bombs and missiles.

According to the military, the plant produces more than 30,000 tons of military-grade explosives annually. Ukraine confirmed a hit on the site, followed by an explosion in the production area, indicating damage to a key Russian defense-industrial facility.
In its statement, the General Staff noted that “a hit on the facility was confirmed, followed by an explosion in the production area.”

It added that the full scale of the damage at what it described as an important strategic site in Russia’s military-industrial complex is still being clarified.
The strike on Promsintez also formed part of a broader overnight wave targeting key industrial facilities inside Russia
The overnight strike set fires at the Yaroslavnefteorgsintez refinery in Yaroslavl, one of Russia’s largest oil-processing plants, with open-source footage and local reports indicating multiple impacts across the industrial site.

The facility, also known as Slavneft-YANOS, lies about 700 kilometers from the Ukrainian border and can process more than 15 million tons of oil per year, making it a significant part of Russia’s refining network.
Russian officials acknowledged a drone attack on the region without confirming damage at the refinery, while analysts cited in Ukrainian reports noted fires in at least three separate areas, including near processing infrastructure and the tank farm.
