A Russian BM-27 “Uragan” multiple rocket launcher system was rendered inoperable following a precision strike by a Ukrainian first-person-view (FPV) drone near the frontline in Donetsk, according to a post published by the 31st Separate Mechanized Brigade.

The strike was carried out by drone operators from the brigade’s Martlet unit, in coordination with reconnaissance teams from the 414th “Birds of Magyar” UAV brigade.

Video footage released by the unit shows the FPV drone approaching the launcher and detonating near the missile tubes.

The initial impact reportedly triggered the engine of one of the 220 mm rockets onboard, causing it to misfire and strike the launcher’s cabin area. While the truck’s chassis remained largely intact, the launcher itself sustained critical damage, making it unusable.

The Russian vehicle had fired at Ukrainian positions minutes before being engaged. The drone strike disrupted further use of the system and injured two Russian crew members. The vehicle attempted to retreat but was monitored by Ukrainian reconnaissance.

A second FPV drone, launched by the “Birds of Magyar” unit, reportedly hit the launcher again, wounding three additional Russian soldiers. A third strike by Martlet’s drone unit then targeted the launcher directly, resulting in further damage and triggering another rocket to break loose from the guide rails.

The operation concluded with a precision-guided strike from a US-made M142 HIMARS system, which destroyed the BM-27 completely. The engagement took place between the villages of Vilne Pole and Pryvilne in the Donetsk region, approximately 15 kilometers from the front line.

The BM-27 “Uragan” is a 220 mm Soviet-designed multiple launch rocket system mounted on a ZIL-135 chassis. It is capable of firing a range of munitions, including high-explosive fragmentation and scatterable mines.

Earlier on November 13, Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces reported the destruction of two Russian air-defense assets in the south—one Buk-M3 medium-range system and one Osa short-range system.
