An FPV drone operated by Ukraine’s 103rd Territorial Defense Brigade has destroyed a North Korean M1989 Koksan self-propelled artillery system used by Russian forces.

According to Militarnyi on April 14, citing a video published by the drone strike unit “Chornyi Stryzh,” two FPV drones were used in the operation. The first drone targeted the front of the vehicle, aiming at the engine-transmission compartment, but failed to cause significant damage.

A second drone detonated beneath the vehicle’s anti-drone cage, igniting the fuel tank and causing a fire that led to the system’s destruction.

The Koksan was identified in an open field alongside a tracked vehicle resembling an armored recovery vehicle, believed to have been used for evacuation support. The artillery piece had been modified by Russian forces with additional anti-drone protection, intended to reduce its vulnerability to FPV and aerial drop attacks.

Earlier, Ukraine’s 14th Separate UAV Brigade reported a successful HIMARS strike on three North Korean-produced Koksan self-propelled artillery systems in Russia’s Kursk region. The systems were detected by drone operators and destroyed despite being shielded with improvised protective structures.
