Ukrainian Olympic champion in high jump, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, has been named the World Athletics Female Athlete of the Year for 2024.

The announcement was made on the official social media of the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics) on December 1.

This is the third consecutive year Mahuchikh has been nominated for the World Athletics award, and she has won it for the first time. In the final voting, she triumphed over Belgium's Nafissatou Thiam, the 2024 Paris Olympic heptathlon champion.

Earlier, Mahuchikh was also recognized as the 2024 European Athlete of the Year at the European Athletics Awards ceremony.

This season, Mahuchikh claimed the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, won the gold medal at the European Athletics Championships in Rome, earned silver at the World Indoor Championships, and was crowned Diamond League champion, winning every stage she participated in.

In early July, Mahuchikh set a new world record in women's high jump. At the Diamond League event in Paris, she became the first woman in history to clear 2.10 meters.
