Russian troops are intensifying efforts to capture Selydove in Donetsk region, deploying large numbers of infantry, Ukraine’s National Guard reported on October 21.

Selydove, a town with a pre-war population of nearly 21,000, is situated just 18 kilometers south of Pokrovsk, which has been a focal point of Russia’s offensive operations in the Donetsk sector in recent months.

The National Guard said that Russian forces are periodically conducting mechanized assaults in the area, using between 3-5 armored vehicles. Despite this, Ukrainian Forces successfully repelled 17 Russian assaults near Pokrovsk within the last 24 hours.

The announcement comes as Russian propaganda claims that fierce street battles are taking place on the outskirts of Selydove.

Earlier, Anastasia Bobovnikova, a spokesperson for the Operational Tactical Group Luhansk said that Russian forces are not preparing for winter on the frontlines, instead focusing on achieving their objectives before the cold weather sets in.
