Ukrainian Photographer and Marine Officer Kostiantyn Huzenko, 28, Killed in Action

Kostiantyn Huzenko, a 28-year-old celebrated Ukrainian documentary and artistic photographer, was killed on the frontline while serving as a press officer with the 35th Separate Marine Brigade named after Rear Admiral Mykhailo Ostrohradskyi.
Before the war, Huzenko was best known for his poignant photography and deep visual storytelling as part of the Ukraїner team. Born in Kyiv, he joined the project in 2020, quickly becoming a vital voice in capturing Ukraine’s diverse regions, people, and spirit.
But after Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, his work shifted toward documenting the impact of the war.
“He was never afraid to go anywhere” wrote Ukraїner founder and fellow serviceman Bohdan Lohvynenko in a tribute. “We traveled together to the South, East, and North—wherever it was most dangerous. Later, he joined the Marines, and we only saw each other occasionally, when he visited Kyiv. Yesterday, Kostia was killed.”
In 2025, he took part in On the Line of Frame, a video series by the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers, highlighting military personnel with a background in photography who continued to engage with their profession while in service.
The time and place of Kostiantyn Huzenko’s burial will be announced later.
Earlier reports stated that journalists from the Ukrainian Freedom Channel were killed while reporting in the region.
