Ukrainian champion rower and soldier Yurii Bredak, callsign “Klever,” has been killed in action.

His death was reported by the Sports Committee of Ukraine on July 14.

Bredak was killed on June 23, 2025, at the age of 48. On July 7, comrades, family, and friends gathered to pay their respects at St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral in Kyiv. He was buried to rest at the Alley of Remembrance for Ukraine’s Defenders.

Back in the autumn of 2021, even before Russia’s full-scale invasion, Bredak voluntarily signed a contract with the 130th Territorial Defense Battalion.

After February 24, 2022, he defended the Kyiv region and later fought in the hottest spots — in Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, and the Zaporizhzhia direction. Despite being wounded, Yurii returned to the front after recovery.

In addition to his military service, Bredak owned a business specializing in the installation of air conditioning and ventilation systems. For the past 15 years, he had made his home with his family in Irpin.

Yurii Bredak was also a master of sports in rowing, a multiple medalist at the Ukrainian championships, and represented Kyiv at national and international competitions.

Earlier, Ukrainian actor Yurii Felipenko, best known for his role in the series A Promise to God, was killed while serving on the front lines.
