Ukraine’s Young Paddlers Make Waves With 14 Medals at European Championships

Ukrainian athletes delivered a standout performance at the European Canoe Sprint Championships for Juniors and U23, held in Pitești, Romania.
This was announced by Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine on July 6.
The national team brought home 14 medals—6 gold, 4 silver, and 4 bronze—securing second place in the overall medal standings. Only Hungary finished higher, with 34 awards.
Among Ukraine’s gold medalists were Yelyzaveta Voznyuk (C-1 500 m and C-1 200 m, juniors), Ivanna Dyachenko (C-1 200 m, U23), and the junior duo Voznyuk and Oleksandra Turchyn (C-2 200 m). U23 athletes Iryna Fedoriv and Anastasiia Dezhytska also topped the podium in C-2 200 m, while the mixed junior team—Sofiia Zhushman, Iryna Nedilko, Maksym Bovkun, and Zakhar Ivanchuk—took gold in C-4 500 m.
Silver went to Yaroslav Verblyud and Vitalii Prystai (C-2 1000 m, U23), Nedilko and Turchyn (C-2 500 m, juniors), Prystai (C-1 200 m, U23), and the U23 mixed crew of Volodymyr Savchyn, Kateryna Nehria, Oleksandra Shvorak, and Taras Kuzyk (C-4 500 m).
Bronze finishes were earned by Savchyn (C-1 500 m, U23), Ivan Kysil (C-1 500 m, juniors), Kseniia Tsompel (K-1 200 m, juniors), and the junior pair Tymofii Melnychuk and Ivan Kysil (C-2 1000 m).
Previously, Ukrainian high jumper Kateryna Tabashnyk secured a silver medal at the Continental Tour meet in Białystok, Poland — an impressive result given she hadn’t trained on a proper outdoor track ahead of the event. Earlier this month, she opened her season by taking gold at the Ukrainian Team Championships with a 1.89-meter jump — her best-ever start to an outdoor season.
