Ukrainian Soldiers Receive Advanced Combat Training From Canadian Instructors in UK
Ukrainian servicemen are undergoing intensive training under the leadership of Canadian instructors of the UNIFIER training mission as part of the multinational operation INTERFLEX in Great Britain.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Experienced instructors pass on their knowledge to future defenders who are undergoing basic military training. They teach tactical medicine, fire training, urban and trench warfare, and many other important skills that increase their effectiveness on the battlefield. This is not just training, it is a real exchange of experience and solidarity between our peoples,” wrote the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Operation UNIFIER is the Canadian Armed Forces’ mission focused on military training in support of Ukraine. It was initiated in 2015 at the request of the Ukrainian government, following Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea. The mission was expanded in early 2022 amid Russia's pre-invasion military buildup and is now set to continue until 2026.
Operation Interflex is a UK-led training program for Ukrainian recruits, equipping them with essential battlefield skills to help defend their homeland against Russian aggression.
Various Ukrainian allies are taking part in training Ukrainian military personnel. At the end of August, EU defense ministers agreed at an informal meeting to increase the number of Ukrainian soldiers trained under the EU Military Assistance Mission. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell announced that an additional 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers will be trained by the end of 2024.
