Ukrainian Strikes on Russian Territory Help Ease Kharkiv Bombardment, Says Mayor

Ukrainian forces targeting positions on Russian territory are helping reduce the number of Russian attacks on the city of Kharkiv.

This was reported in an exclusive Reuters article, citing the Mayor of Kharkiv Ihor Terekhov.

Russia intensified its strikes on Kharkiv in May after the beginning of the new offensive on the Kharkiv region on May 10. The Mayor of Kharkiv stated that the situation got calmer after the US allowed Ukraine to strike Russian territory near the Kharkiv region using American weapons.

“This has helped,” Terekhov said in an interview in Berlin when asked whether the ability to strike inside Russia had helped improve the situation in Kharkiv following weeks of heavy bombardment. “That is why maybe Kharkiv has… this period of… calm the last couple of weeks… that there were no great strikes as it was, for example, in May.”

Terekhov stated while speaking at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin that approximately 11,500 individuals have relocated to Kharkiv from areas experiencing intense bombardment.

“It’s very important to have the weapons on time,” Terekhov said. “It is very important to have these weapons, especially multi-defense air systems.”
