An unidentified drone sighting near Palma de Mallorca Airport on Sunday, October 19, prompted a temporary suspension of flight operations for approximately 35 minutes, according to Dario de Mallorca on October 20.

At least six pilots reported seeing the drone near the airport, officially known as Son Sant Joan. As a safety precaution, Spain’s air navigation authority Enaire halted all takeoffs and landings while the situation was assessed.

Air traffic was eventually restored, but the disruption forced eight flights to be rerouted.

Security forces were deployed to investigate. After conducting aerial checks with their own drone, authorities confirmed that no threats were detected.

The incident occurred on one of the busiest travel days at the airport, which had 892 scheduled arrivals and departures.

In a separate but similarly concerning development, unidentified drones were observed flying over the Mourmelon-le-Grand military base in France’s Marne department on the night of September 22. The facility, spanning over 10,000 hectares, is one of the largest military training grounds in the country. The sightings were first reported by French media outlets RFI and France 3, citing information from the AFP news agency.

The incident was officially confirmed on September 25 by the departmental military delegation in Marne. According to officials, the drones involved were small in size and not of military origin. Authorities described the occurrence as “exceptional” and emphasized that, at this stage, there is no evidence pointing to the involvement of any foreign government.

Earlier, Russia deployed covert operatives across multiple European Union countries to carry out drone incursions near airports and military facilities of allied nations.
