US Approves Transfer of ATACMS and Patriot Missiles From Germany to Ukraine

The United States has approved Germany’s request to transfer over 200 US-made missiles to Ukraine, including 125 long-range rockets for multiple launch systems and 100 interceptor missiles for the Patriot air defense system.
According to The New York Times on May 11, a US congressional official confirmed on May 10 that the Biden administration had formally approved the transfer, which includes artillery munitions typically used with HIMARS and MARS II systems, as well as air defense interceptors for Patriot batteries.
The missiles are currently being routed through Germany and will be handed over to Ukraine once logistics are complete.

Due to US export regulations, foreign countries that possess American-made weapons must obtain US government approval before transferring them to third parties. This requirement applies even if the weapons are already in the possession of allied nations, such as Germany.
While the specific type of long-range rockets was not disclosed, open-source data suggests they may include variants capable of striking targets at distances of up to 300 miles (480 kilometers).
Earlier, the US State Department approved a $310.5 million Foreign Military Sales package to support Ukraine’s F-16 program, including training, upgrades, maintenance, and logistical services—without offensive weapons.
