The US Department of Defense has announced that D&M Holding Company has launched a new ammunition manufacturing facility in Ukraine. This development is part of ongoing efforts to support Ukraine’s defense needs amid its war with Russia.

The factory’s construction has been completed, and production capacity is already being expanded. However, D&M will not manage the production directly. The company’s role is limited to the construction of the facility and providing large-scale engineering and manufacturing solutions. D&M specializes in offering turnkey ammunition production solutions to both governmental and commercial clients.

While the exact types of ammunition to be produced remain undisclosed, it is anticipated that the facility will manufacture rifle cartridges, likely in calibers 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm. There is also potential for expanding production to include other small-caliber rounds in the future.

The opening of this facility is part of a broader trend, with several European and U.S. companies recently announcing the establishment of ammunition production plants in Ukraine. In addition, some firms have granted licenses for the production of ammunition on Ukrainian soil. For instance, the Ukrainian government has allocated funding to facilitate the production of 155-mm shells using technology provided by Norwegian company Nammo, as part of the Nansen program.
