Made in Ukraine: First FPV Drones With Domestic Components Unveiled in Kyiv

Ukraine introduced its first batch of FPV drones assembled from domestically produced modules. The presentation, held in Kyiv, was opened by Minister for Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshin and brought together representatives of the country’s drone industry, according to Babel on March 14.
The drones were developed by VYRIY in collaboration with other industry players. While the modules are assembled in Ukraine, VYRIY’s founder and CEO, Oleksii Babenko, clarified that the drones are not yet fully localized. Some components within the modules are still imported, mainly from China, and then integrated into the final product in Ukraine.
Babenko emphasized the importance of this assembly model, noting that while China could block the export of ready-made drone modules, it is less likely to restrict the sale of individual components. This approach allows Ukraine to maintain production despite potential supply chain challenges.
At the same time, Babenko outlined key obstacles to further localization, including limited access to preferential loans, unpredictable procurement processes, the lack of exemptions from military service for key industry workers, and tax burdens such as VAT, which place additional financial strain on manufacturers.

VYRIY previously contributed technology to the “People’s FPV” initiative, supporting Ukraine’s push to develop domestic drone solutions.
Previously, it was reported that Ukraine is working on a cutting-edge aerial system to counter Russia’s nightly barrages of Shahed suicide drones.
