Zelenskyy Visits Sandu on Moldova's Independence Day

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy traveled to Chisinau on August 27 to meet with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, calling for enhanced bilateral cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
The visit took place during Moldova's Independence Day celebrations, reciprocating Sandu's attendance at Ukraine's Independence Day events in Kyiv on August 24.

The bilateral discussions focused on bolstering shared capabilities in key strategic areas. Both leaders agreed on the necessity of working closely together to enhance joint security, energy resilience, and regional infrastructure projects.
Addressing the significance of the timing, Zelenskyy stated, "Today in Chisinau. Important meeting with Maia Sandu. We are working to ensure more joint security, energy, and infrastructure capabilities. Right now, it is especially important to be together and to strengthen one another."

Reflecting on the mutual support between the neighboring states, the Ukrainian leader emphasized their shared bond, adding that "Friends must be side by side."
"As long as Ukraine fights, Moldova can sleep peacefully," Sandu added.
The dialogue builds upon ongoing high-level exchanges aimed at strengthening regional stability since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
During her earlier trip to Kyiv on August 24, President Sandu presented President Zelenskyy with the Order of the Republic, which stands as Moldova's highest state distinction.
The award recognizes outstanding contributions to continental peace and serves as a token of gratitude from the Moldovan people for the bravery of the Ukrainian nation.

According to Suspilne News, more than 2,000 service members, including Ukrainian troops, participated in a military parade in Chisinau to mark the 35th anniversary of Moldova’s independence.
The parade featured over 100 units of military equipment, such as self-propelled artillery, air defense systems, and specialized vehicles, alongside honor guards and military units from eight partner nations—Ukraine, Romania, Lithuania, Italy, Poland, France, the Czech Republic, and the United States.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, and Romanian President Nicușor Dan were among the officials present as the columns marched through the central square.
Previously, President Maia Sandu stated that Moldova urgently needed high-technology interceptor drones and new legislation to enable their manufacture, pointing to Russia’s full-scale invasion of neighboring Ukraine.
She warned that without such defenses, the country would be left powerless to stop Russian drones from falling on its territory, while noting that Moldova had already opened consultations with Kyiv to secure technology and build a team of experts.
