US Considering Sending Another Patriot System To Ukraine
According to Bloomberg, citing sources inside the White House, the United States is considering supplying Ukraine with an additional Patriot missile defense system to strengthen their capability against Russian aircraft and missiles.
This system would include one Patriot air-defense battery and the necessary radar equipment.
Funding would likely be allocated from the recently approved $61 billion aid package by the U.S. Congress.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that the country needs 25 Patriot missile defense systems, or similar alternatives, to fully secure its airspace.
During a recent meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Blinken, Zelenskyy emphasized the urgent need for just two Patriots to defend the Kharkiv region, which faces intensified Russian attacks.
Currently, Ukraine is believed to possess at least three Patriot systems along with supporting equipment provided by the U.S., Germany, and the Netherlands. Germany has also pledged to send an additional system in April.
European allies are also weighing in with the possibility of supplying Ukraine with more air defense systems from their own reserves.
