Russian ballistic missile strike in the early hours of April 6 caused extensive destruction to the buildings in Kyiv that housed several editorial teams of Ukraine’s state-owned broadcasting company, the “Multimedia Broadcasting Platform of Ukraine” (MPIU). These same offices had only recently been relocated following a previous Russian attack on February 12.

According to FREEDOM, the damaged facilities included the editorial offices of TV channels FREEДОМ, Dom, UATVEnglish, The Gaze, UATVEspañol, UATVArabic, and UATVPortuguês, as well as the digital newsroom, service departments, broadcasting equipment rooms and offices. No MPIU employees were injured in the attack.

The strike destroyed the newly built newsroom of FREEДОМ, which MPIU had been reconstructing as a modern studio after the February bombardment. The channel has since resumed broadcasting from a backup studio.

The upper three floors of the business center that housed the broadcasting services were completely destroyed. A massive crater now sits beside the building, and the lower floors were heavily damaged, rendering the entire site unusable.

“This is the second strike in less than two months. The attack destroyed the very spaces where our digital and service departments had resumed operations after the February strike. We had relocated part of our team and production equipment there and were preparing to launch the new FREEДОМ studio and carry out recovery work,” said Yuliia Bin, Director General of MPIU.

“Emergency services are currently on-site clearing debris, and investigators are working to assess the damage. While we still don’t fully understand the scale of destruction, it’s clear these premises can no longer be used. But we will find a way forward. The most important thing is that none of our staff were hurt—and we’re still on air. Thank you to everyone who supports and helps us.”

On April 6, Russia launched coordinated missile and drone attacks across Ukraine, hitting Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Kupiansk, and Sumy.

In Kyiv, ballistic missiles hit Kyiv’s Darnytskyi, Obolonskyi, and Solomyanskyi districts. Three people were injured, two hospitalized, and one man was found dead near the Darnytskyi blast site. Strikes caused structural damage, while a drone attack in Sumy ignited a large fire at a civilian site.
