The US provided Ukraine with an additional $3.4 billion in budgetary aid, offering essential support as Russian attacks on Ukrainian civilians and infrastructure intensify, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced on Monday, December 30.

“In coordination with the US Agency for International Development and the Department of State, this $3.4 billion in assistance marks the final disbursement of funds appropriated under the bipartisan Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2024,” Yellen’s statement reads.

This latest funding brings total US budgetary aid to Ukraine to over $30 billion since Russia's invasion in February 2022, Reuters reported, citing a US official. The majority of these funds have been allocated to sustain Ukraine's government operations, including paying salaries for teachers and other public sector workers.

Earlier on December 30, US President Joe Biden announced a new $2.5 billion security assistance package for Ukraine, designed to bolster the country’s defense against ongoing Russian aggression.
