US, Ukraine Launch Talks on Joint Efforts to Shield Energy Infrastructure From Russian Strikes

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with US Energy Secretary Chris Wright to discuss energy cooperation and potential partnership projects between the two countries, the President wrote in a post on Telegram on October 17.
During the talks, Zelenskyy detailed the impact of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, outlining urgent needs for the rapid restoration of damaged facilities.
He emphasized the critical importance of international support in ensuring the reliable functioning of Ukraine’s energy system.

Zelenskyy also highlighted the broader significance of strengthening ties with the United States, including increasing the presence of American businesses in Ukraine to support long-term energy development and economic resilience.
“We consider it important to develop cooperation between Ukraine and the United States, in particular to increase the presence of American businesses in Ukraine,” Zelenskyy wrote.
Zelenskyy also met with executives from American energy companies, stressing the urgent need to strengthen Ukraine’s energy capacity.
He discussed immediate requirements to support the country’s energy system, as well as long-term cooperation projects that could create opportunities for both Ukraine and the United States.
Previously, it was reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy held separate meetings with representatives of two leading US defense companies—Raytheon and Lockheed Martin—to discuss expanding cooperation on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense and long-range strike capabilities.
