“Very Disappointed in Putin”: Trump Tightens Timeline for Ending Russia’s War Against Ukraine

US President Donald Trump has decided to shorten the 50-day ultimatum he previously gave Russian leader Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine, citing a loss of confidence in Moscow’s willingness to de-escalate, Trump said during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, according to the Clash Report on July 28.
“I’m very disappointed in Putin. I’m going to reduce the 50-day deadline because I think I already know the answer,” Trump said.

Earlier this month, Trump issued a stark warning to Moscow: end the war in Ukraine within 50 days or face sweeping secondary sanctions from the United States. Despite the ultimatum, Russia has intensified its military operations in Donetsk, Kharkiv, and toward the Dnipro region.
“We thought many times that we had a settlement, and then President Putin comes out and starts launching missiles at a city like Kyiv and kills a lot of people,” Trump continued.
“So we’ll see what happens. I’m disappointed in President Putin—very disappointed in him. That’s why I’m reducing the 50 days I gave him to a smaller number, because we know what’s going to happen.”
While Trump has previously hinted at having a “plan” to quickly end the war, his recent statements suggest a growing skepticism that Russia is prepared to take steps toward peace.
Earlier, Moscow’s Foreign Ministry rejected US President Donald Trump’s demand that Russian leader Vladimir Putin secure a peace deal in Ukraine within 50 days, calling the one-sided ultimatum “very strange” and highlighting the absence of any comparable call on Ukraine.
